Adoptions Will Continue on an Appointment-Only Basis

Beginning March 17th, all adoptions will be handled on an appointment-only basis, and we will be closed to non-adopting visitors.

Following is our appointment-only adoption process:

  1. If you are interested in adopting a pet, please fill out an online application.
  2. Next, please call 630-323-5630.
  3. During this pre-screening, you will be asked if you are sick or exhibiting symptoms, among other questions. If you are ill, we will not be able to adopt to you at this time.
  4. After your initial pre-screening, an Adoption Counselor will call you back within a few hours and run through our normal adoption questions.
  5. After this call, we will schedule a time for you to meet with the pet.
  6. No more than two people at a time can meet the pet. If you are bringing more than 2 people, others will be asked to wait outside the building. If your other family members are young children, please bring another responsible adult to assist with them outside the building if their presence will constitute more than 2 people in the room with the animal. You will be able to have all family members meet the animal, but only in groups of 2.
  7. We will process adoption fees and paperwork as normal.

Because the global situation changes daily, we will continue to provide updates on our social media channels and our website, as they occur. Our current updated procedures are designed to provide the optimal safety for staff, volunteers, visitors, the animals in our shelter, and the ones who will still need our help.

Following are just a few of the new protocols we have set in place.

  • Only essential staff will be on hand at our facility
  • ALL animals will continue to be cared for without interruption and will receive additional socialization and playtime to offset anticipated adoption and visitor shortfalls
  • All kennel and clinic staff and volunteers will be wearing scrub tops and pants to minimize bringing illness into our facility
  • Upcoming events have been cancelled and attendees notified
  • Group volunteer activities have been suspended until further notice
  • Individual volunteers are welcome, but we will be emphasizing the importance of maintaining socially reasonable distance and sanitizing of hands frequently
  • We have installed hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the facility with signs encouraging use
  • We are following best cleaning practices and employing them frequently throughout the day
  • Any new animals that arrive will be bathed before being put in a clean kennel.

Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time and for bearing with us throughout these safety changes being implemented. We will ensure our animals are getting quiet time out of their kennels, enrichment opportunities, playtime and lots and lots of love. Our love and thanks to all of you for your ongoing support of our work.
