The following are best practices for all Pet Therapy teams, to be followed on every visit:
- Wear your HHS Therapaws Shirt and Name Tag
- Carry Pet Cards and Fact Cards with you
- Scan/Email your pet’s rabies certificate to Pet Therapy Program Manager when renewing
- Keep a copy of Rabies Certificate on your phone
- Have your pet on-leash at all times (leash no longer than 6 ft., never retractable leashes)
- Control the giving of treats
- Only you should give treats to your pets (CARe Teams only - unless otherwise instructed by a licensed therapist conducting a session)
- Limit treats to be rewards, not the focal point of the visit
- 'No treats in the hospitals do to hand hygiene rule (Hinsdale Behavioral Health being the exception)
