Canine as a Second Language Class
The goal of our classes is to foster a strong, positive bond between dogs and their owners. Through the class, we strive to promote humane education, responsible pet care, and dog training based on positive motivation.
Because most of our families are more interested in a well-mannered pet than an obedience competitor, we emphasize good behavior(not jumping up, housebreaking, controlled walk on a leash, giving up toys and food, etc.) as well as basic obedience commands. Our students are people who are interested in learning how to better communicate with and train their own dogs. Family members are welcome and encouraged to attend (no children 5 years or younger, please).
The class is open to dogs adopted from HHS as well as any other non-aggressive dog from the community. All dogs must be at least 4 months old at time of the first class and have a current rabies vaccine. We strongly recommend a "puppy kindergarten" class for puppies under four months of age, where pups are allowed to play and socialize with others of the same age.
$100 for 7-week session.
$85 if you register within 5 days of adoption.
For dates of upcoming classes or more information, stop by the shelter or phone us at (630) 323-5630.
